They're at it again! Phony emails bearing the BBB name are bombarding in-boxes across North America and right here in Western Ontario. The recent attack on consumers and businesses led the FBI to issue an alert this week about the recurrent scam.

Just recently, the Windsor Police Financial Crimes Unit issued a statement regarding an elderly Windsor woman who lost $2800.00 to this type of scam

A phone scam that has plagued the UK and Australia during the past couple of years is now making an appearance here in Ontario and the scam artists are using a well-known name to attack vulnerable consumers. Callers claiming to be from Microsoft or other familiar computer companies are attempting to bilk consumers out of money while at the same time giving them access to personal data.

Better Business Bureau is issuing an urgent SCAM alert cautioning businesses and consumers about an email that looks like it is from BBB, with the subject line “Complaint from your customers.” This e-mail is fraudulent; ignore its contents and delete it immediately. If you have already clicked on a link in the e-mail, run a full virus scan of your computer.

Consumers across the country are reporting scam emails that appear to be from ticket company StubHub. The emails try to lure recipients into sharing credit card information by falsely alerting consumers they are being charged for expensive boxing tickets to a match in Nevada.
