A phone scam that has plagued the UK and Australia during the past couple of years is now making an appearance here in Ontario and the scam artists are using a well-known name to attack vulnerable consumers. Callers claiming to be from Microsoft or other familiar computer companies are attempting to bilk consumers out of money while at the same time giving them access to personal data.

Better Business Bureau is issuing an urgent SCAM alert cautioning businesses and consumers about an email that looks like it is from BBB, with the subject line “Complaint from your customers.” This e-mail is fraudulent; ignore its contents and delete it immediately. If you have already clicked on a link in the e-mail, run a full virus scan of your computer.
